Drug addict actresses in Iran cinema

Here is a list of Iranian actresses appearing as drug addicts in the country’s cinema.

Such roles are quite challenging for a man as something off-limit, let alone a woman has to act out as a female addict before the camera.

The line-up starts with Farimah Farjami who played the role of a female addict for the first time after the Islamic Revolution.

‘The Blade and the Silk’ (1987) by Masoud Kimiai featured impeccable performance of Farjami as a drug addict.

Actress Tannaz Tabatabaei is the second on the addiction performance list in Iran cinema. She took on the role of a young lady who escaped home due to her addiction. The flick ‘Salve’ featuring her impressive role was at the helm of Alireza Davoodnejad.

The list goes on to include Baran Kosari who played in ‘Mainline’ directed by her mother Rakhshan Banietemad. The thespian did such perfect portrayal of a female addict to convince the Fajr fest jury for a Best Actress award.

ifilm popular actress  Mahtab Keramati and star of ‘The Men of Angelos’ series is the next on the list. She appeared in two films as a female addict - 'Ice Age' by Mostafa Kiayee and ‘Absolutely Tame Is a Horse’ by Abdolreza Kahani.

Sara Bahrami rounds up the list with her very different part in Behrouz Shoeibi’s flick as a drug addict sporting a look which made her role more credible. Her appearance in ‘Axing’, otherwise known as ‘Woodpecker’, grabbed the Best Actress award at the 36th edition of Fajr Film Festival in Iran.
